Can I Sell RCI Timeshare?

Resort Condominiums International (RCI) is widely recognized as a leader in timeshare exchange. Founded in 1974 as an exchange service for timeshare condominium owners, RCI created a way to inject some travel options into the static, weeks-based timeshare industry. Now, more than 40 years later, owners are still wondering how they can sell RCI timeshare. It depends on how you look at it.

Technically, you can’t sell RCI timeshare because RCI does not own resorts and, therefore, does not have timeshare to sell. Because many owners only know about their timeshare through RCI because of the way they use the exchange system, they think they own an RCI timeshare and can sell it.

The reality is that RCI has created a network of affiliated resorts and the owner owns a deeded interest in a timeshare at a home resort within that network (even if they own RCI points). They need to find out at which resort they own before they can sell their timeshare.

Because the resort is an RCI affiliate, an owner can seemingly sell RCI timeshare, which is why it gets confusing. The best way to find out what you own is to check your deed or purchase and sale agreement, or call RCI and ask them what exactly you own.

What About Selling RCI Points?

In some cases RCI points transfer on the resale market, so when you sell your timeshare the RCI points can go with it. RCI points are an overlay connected to your timeshare ownership (so you can't sell them as a stand-alone product) but whether they can transfer is up to the resort at which you own. Some resorts allow it, some don't.

If you have your original agreement from when you purchased your RCI points, refer to the agreement to see if they can transfer on the resale market. Otherwise contact your resort directly to find out. It may make your timeshare more valuable to potential buyers, even though they will still need an RCI membership to use them.

Once You Know, SellaTimeshare.com Can Help You Sell

When you know the details of the resort you own at, you can sign up to advertise your timeshare on our high-traffic website for free. Our self-service platform allows you to upload the details of your timeshare yourself so our system can build your ad automatically.

As offers are placed onto ads in our system, licensed agents from our sister company, Timeshare Broker Associates, contact the buyer to verify that the offer is accurate and legitimate. Some scammers pose as buyers in order to make contact with sellers and try to get their personal information, which is why we have added this extra layer of protection.

Because there are no upfront fees to pay, you'll be able to keep more of the sales proceeds for yourself once the timeshare is sold.
