Comparing Club Wyndham Access versus Club Wyndham Select

Vacationing today is marked by convenience and luxury. One of the expressions of this trend is the rise in popularity of points-based vacation ownership systems that allow vacationers to enjoy fantastic experiences in various destinations. Two of the most prominent programs are run by Club Wyndham: Club Wyndham Access and Club Wyndham Select. Here, we will look at these two programs, breaking down some of the details and comparing the differences.

Club Wyndham Access

Club Wyndham Access is a flexible, non-deeded pure points-based ownership program that offers a more dynamic and diverse vacation experience. Here's how it works:

  • Point Allocation: Members purchase an amount of points that are renewed each year to be used across a wide range of resorts.
  • Global Network: Preferred access to nearly 90 Club Wyndham Access resorts in 26 states and the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico and St. Thomas.
  • Flexibility: Points can be used to book various lengths of stays and different sized accommodations.
  • Seasonal Choices: Members can choose to vacation in different seasons depending on their amount of points, as peak season bookings require more points than non-peak seasons.
  • Point Borrowing and Banking: The flexibility to borrow points from future years to use now or bank points for future travel next year.
  • Advance Booking Window: Bookings can be made from 13 to 10 months in advance at any Club Wyndham Access resort, giving members the jump on the best vacation dates.
  • Standard Booking Window: Applies to booking at any Club Wyndham resort from three up to 10 months in advance of the vacation dates.
  • Express Booking Window: Bookings made within three months prior to the vacation dates with a two-night minimum stay in any season.
  • Maintenance Fees: Club Wyndham Access invoices what they call a “blended maintenance fee, which is a combination of maintenance fees and any annuals dues associated with the program. It varies based on the number of points owned.
  • Point Expiration: Unused points expire at the end of the current usage year but can be banked to be used in one of the following two years. The deposit window varies depending on your level of membership.
  • Exchange Options: Additional opportunities for unique vacation experiences are available through exchange provider RCI, where points can be deposited to be used for accommodations or travel options beyond Club Wyndham.
  • Online Booking System: Members can book and manage their vacation plans online through the Club Wyndham booking platform.
  • Guest Confirmations: Points can be used to book vacations for friends and family, allowing others to enjoy the benefits of membership. A minimum of two Guest Confirmations are allowed each year depending on the level of membership.

Club Wyndham Select

Club Wyndham Select is a deeded ownership structure, providing points that are deeded to a specific home resort. Here's what it entails:

  • Deeded Benefit: Having points deeded to your home resort gives you top priority to book at that resort. This is especially important at higher demand resorts.
  • Home Resort Priority: Members have a priority booking window at their home resort from 13 to 10 months prior to their vacation dates for a three-night minimum stay.
  • Delayed Flexibility: Advanced Priority access is limited to the home resort, with additional resort options then available during the standard booking window beginning 10 months from the desired vacation dates. That said, the standard window opens up 245 resorts to choose from.
  • Exchange Programs: Members can participate in the RCI exchange programs to expand vacation options at other resorts in addition to Club Wyndham.
  • Any Day Bookings: Even though this is a deeded ownership, members can book accommodation on any day of the week in any season, depending on the amount of points. This is different than traditional deeded fixed or floating timeshare ownership which requires a set day of the week for check in.
  • Week Ownership Conversions: Owners who own a fixed or floating week either with Wyndham or a non-Wyndham resort can convert their week into points with Club Wyndham Select.
  • Potential Rental Opportunities: Members have the option to rent out the use of their points if they cannot use them, depending on the specific terms of their ownership.
  • Maintenance Fees: Annual fees are assessed based on the resort at which the ownership is deeded, and the number of points owned. This is primarily for the upkeep and maintenance of the resort.
  • Expiration of Points: Unused points expire the same way for Select as well as Access, at the end of the current usage year. They can also be banked to be used in one of the following two use years.
  • Online Reservations: The same Club Wyndham online reservation system is used for both Select and Access members, but options will be tailored to your specific ownership program.
  • Guest Usage: Select members can also use Guest Confirmations for friends and family members to vacation using your points.

Key Differences Between Club Wyndham Access and Club Wyndham Select

  • Flexibility: Club Wyndham Access provides a more flexible approach, allowing members to initially use points across a wider network of resorts during the Advance Booking Window. Club Wyndham Select, on the other hand, focuses on a particular home resort during the advance window.
  • Point Systems: Club Wyndham Access uses a pure point system that offers various accommodation choices, length of stay, and seasonal options. As a deeded product, Club Wyndham Select also offers these options but provides higher priority at home resorts, which is an advantage for owners deeded to high demand resorts.
  • Pricing: Discounted resale pricing is always a benefit compared to prices charged by Wyndham, as you can save thousands of dollars buying resale. This works for both programs, but the pricing for Club Wyndham Access tends to average out somewhat higher than the Club Wyndham Select offerings that are generally promoted through advertising on specific home resort profiles.
  • Vacation Priorities: Club Wyndham Access might offer more options for those who enjoy exploring various destinations. Club Wyndham Select might be more suitable for those who prefer returning to the same location.

Club Wyndham Access and Club Wyndham Select each have unique features that benefit various types of travelers. Club Wyndham Access might be ideal for those who desire a more flexible and diverse vacation experience, while Club Wyndham Select may attract those looking for consistency and the tangible ownership of a deeded property.

The choice between these two options will depend on individual preferences and travel priorities. Both programs embody Wyndham's commitment to quality and hospitality, and potential members should carefully review both options to find the one that best suits their vacationing style.

Thinking of Buying or Selling Wyndham Points?

If you are searching for points in the Access program, be sure to look for the profile in our system called Wyndham Club Access. You can do that through the search option at the top of the page or by clicking here. Club Wyndham Select options are advertised through the profiles for the home resort, so you’ll want to search for the specific resort name such as Wyndham Bonnet Creek or Wyndham Ocean Walk.

Of course, owners who are already members of either program know the benefits mentioned above but might be looking to sell Wyndham Club Access points or sell Wyndham timeshare points deeded in the Select program.
